A Question to the Australian Government Regarding Adoption?

I think it is ridiculous that within Australia only married (ie straight) couples can adopt.

Even where a country allows for a single woman to adopt Australian laws do not permit the woman to
bring the child into the country.

With so many children in the world wanting 'forever homes' why are we making adoption within Australia
so hard- even for married couples?

Is it not logical that they will seek alternatives- such as surrogacy- or creating a child using egg or sperm donation- when adoption is made so difficult?
Why not help the children already born- and needing homes?

When are we going to put the rights and needs of children first?
Who has made the decision that only straight, married couple have the 'right' to adopt? Why is this group of people thought to be the best (and only) option for children who need a loving stable home? Despite knowing the statistics relating to marriages - and the implications for children who then have to live through these broken relationships? We need to make changes; our children deserve us to reassess current practices and
remain open minded.
